Tess Mayer

I am 15 years old and I spent my early childhood in the busy NYC, I've always loved it there. Now I am in a high school in a small town in upstate New York. It's one of the most beautiful places I've ever come across, but I desperately want the excitement of the city. Just about a year ago, when I was 14 I picked up my little canon point-and-shoot and took pictures of leaves and flowers. But now photography is all I want to do for the rest of my life. I've always loved creating things; trying to turn the fantasies in my head into words, put them on paper; or more recently, capture them in a photograph. But taking photos makes me happier than anything else. I try to capture real life, I think this is why I hate studio lights. Natural light is real. I love taking photos because you can capture so much in just a second. Now I just wander the woods trying to capture something worth remembering. My only models are myself, my sister, and a few of my friends. But I want to shoot real life, exciting and spontaneous life. I have dreams of shooting for magazines, or shooting things that will make people stop and look for a couple seconds, taking photos that will make people think.
